Martha GRAY (1838?-1915)

Martha Elizabeth GRAY, daughter of George GRAY (1800?-1874?) and Lucy BARFOOT (1805-1876), was born in February 1838 (estimated) in Putney, Surrey.^1,2 She was baptised on 4 March 1838 in Putney.³ She appeared in the census on 6 June 1841 in Putney aged 4.⁴ The address was: Lower Common, Putney, Surrey. She appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 in Putney aged 13.¹ The address was: 10 Sadler's Buildings, Putney, Surrey. On 30 March 1851 she was a Scholar.¹ She married Henry STEPHENS Q1 1857 in Kensington, London.⁵ On 26 April 1857 she lived in Putney.⁶ She appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 in Putney aged 23.⁷ The address was: Lower Common, Putney, Surrey. She witnessed the marriage of George Dady BOWERS and Caroline Jemima GRAY on 1 March 1863 in Hammersmith, Middlesex.^8,9,10 She appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 in Putney aged 32.¹¹ The address was: Gardener's Lane, Putney, Surrey. She appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 in Putney aged 40.¹² The address was: 11 Biggs Row, Charlwood Road, Putney, Surrey. On 3 April 1881 she was a Laundress.¹² She appeared in the census on 5 April 1891 in Putney, London aged 55.¹³ The address was: 11 Biggs Row, Putney, London. On 5 April 1891 she was a Laundress.¹³ She appeared in the census on 31 March 1901 in Marylebone, London aged 64.¹⁴ The address was: Barrett Street, Marylebone, London. She appeared in the census on 2 April 1911 in Paddington, London aged 73.¹⁵ The address was: 77 Kilburn Park Road, Paddington, London. On 2 April 1911 she was a Laundress.¹⁵ She died Q2 1915 in Paddington aged 77.¹⁶
